MezzoSherri likes the other packhorse librarian book better than Moyes’.Īnd here’s another wee truth-bomb: I’m pretty sure I’d have given this book a 2-star rating, whether or not I knew about Richardson’s novel ahead of reading Moyes’s.įirst things first: even though I vastly prefer Richardson’s packhorse librarian book to Moyes’s, I don’t buy into the allegations of plagiarism I’ve seen directed at Moyes here. She has best-selling cred and movie deals galore.* I can’t exactly imagine her crying her self to sleep amongst her millions simply because a certain Ms. Though let’s be honest, here-Moyes is doing just fine without my fandom. Both novels explore the largely-forgotten history of the Depression-Era Pack Horse Librarians of Kentucky, and Moyes’ novel certainly pales in comparison to Richardson’s. Poor Jojo Moyes! I might have enjoyed her book some degree more had I not read Kim Michele Richardson‘s Book Woman of Troublesome Creek over the summer.

The Iliad, and the Odyssey, were likely written down in Homeric Greek, a literary amalgam of Ionic Greek and other dialects, probably around the late 8th or early 7th century BC. The Iliad is often regarded as the first substantial piece of European literature. In particular, it depicts a fierce quarrel between King Agamemnon and a celebrated warrior, Achilles. Set towards the end of the Trojan War, a ten-year siege of the city of Troy by a coalition of Mycenaean Greek states, the poem depicts significant events in the siege's final weeks. It contains 15,693 lines in its most widely accepted version. As with the Odyssey, the poem is divided into 24 books and was written in dactylic hexameter. It is one of the oldest extant works of literature still widely read by modern audiences.
